January!

Good Evening!

We had a great week back and it was so nice to catch up with the kids! The students did wonderful with area and perimeter. I am looking forward to this quarter. Conferences are at the end of January and they will be student-led this time.  More information to come!  *This Friday is our class field trip to the state capital.  I asked before break if anybody would be buying a lunch, the students indicated that they would bring a lunch from home. Please have the lunch packed in a brown bag or plastic bag with the name of the student on it.  Also it is vital that they arrive to school on time if not earlier! Our tour starts promptly at 9:30am.

Reading
We are learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and will be doing various activities to support the learning. The students will have a comprehension quiz on the book this Friday.

Language
This Friday they will have a test on lesson 17 for spelling. This weeks focus for language is using context clues to determine higher-level words and interpreting quotes from Martin Luther King Jr.

Math
I will be introducing fractions this week. I know many of them were introduced to fractions last year. I will do a quick review of what they are and go right into our standard in fourth grade which is equivalent fractions. We will not be having a test until later. It is SO important for the kids to really understand the basics of fractions before moving forward so I do not want to rush through this. With that being said I have lessen the math homework in the weekly packet and the students will have fraction homework daily. The daily fraction homework will be short because I know you all have busy lives. It is crucial though that the students get the extra practice at home, therefore I greatly appreciate you setting some time where you and your child can complete the page.  I have attached the anchor chart we will be using in class so you can review it.
