4th Quarter!

Welcome back from Spring Break!

I hope everybody had a wonderful spring break and got to enjoy some time off with your child. I know today it was hard for me to get up. Hopefully by the end of the week I will be back into morning routine.

I can't believe it is already fourth quarter. Report cards will be going home next Monday since we are off Friday! I am so proud of these students for all their hard work this year. They have made great progress in reading and mathematics. I love seeing them grow in their academics and confidence. Principal's End of the Year Water Day will be approaching soon. In order to earn an invitation a student must not receive a ticket/referral within a certain date.

Important Information:
There will be no homework packet this week since it is short. This Thursday we are taking a 4sight test. It is crucial that your child is here that day because I will be creating my lesson plans from the results to better prepare them for AzMerit.

-Math: They are learning about tenths and hundredths (NF.5). We will also be relating fractions with a denominator of ten or hundred as a decimal (NF.6).

-Reading: We are doing a whole class book study of the Wright Brothers. This is a non-fiction text that includes timelines, diagrams, problem and solution, sequencing, and others. We will learn an abundance about the Wright brothers while covering many of the informational text standards. It will takes us this week and next to complete the book.

-Writing: Students are practicing the writing process from a prompt.

-Language: We are diving into the parts of speech. They will be review the eight parts of speech and learning when and how to use them. No spelling test.

Have a wonderful week!

One More Week Until Spring Break!

Happy Monday,

-Math: I am super impressed with how well the kids are getting fractions. A little bit of last week and this week we started learning how to multiply fractions by a whole number (4.NF.4. The students are learning three ways to solve this problem: drawing visuals, number lines, and the standard algorithm. We will have a test on Wednesday for this concept. Then on Thursday they will lean how to express a fraction with a denominator of 10 as an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100 (4.NF.5).

-Reading:
This week for reading we are doing a review. The students have chosen a book on an event in history. They will be creating a comic strip book focusing on summarizing, paraphrase, and quoting from the text. This will be a fun activity to do before spring break, but still focuses on writing and comprehension.

-Language:
The spelling words are a review from prior weeks. Please have your child study the words since the last two spelling test have been challenging

-Science:
We are continuing to work on L to J. This is a great review for the students before the state test. After spring break we will take a break from it and dive into electricity and magnetism.
